I have been studying scripture to be clear as to why Deacons must be men. We recently ordained a women as a Deacon and not everyone agrees with this more. The link above addresses this issue and perhaps fills in some spaces y'all might have.

At the end of the day, I am convinced the Church, across the board, has diminished the Deacon's role as a leader in this practice of mercy. Our Father in heaven expects us to exercise mercy as a natural response to the mercy we have received from Him.
We must soften our hearts and put away our material love.
